Post 7- How Good Is Your Memory?
Before starting the memory tests, I know I am very forgetful and usually have to pair things together to remember, so I expect I will do poorly on these tests. I usually only remember stuff I find important or interesting, and I know there is little at stake if I don't do well here, so that is why I have made my prediction as such.
Fail. I have failed tests before, but failing a situational judgement test really hurt my ego. I don't think it is reliable because it does not take in to account personal preferences or needs. For example, one test asked how I best thought to respond to a customer calling about an order, but the item is not in stock. They said I should be polite then ask if I want to be called once it is in stock, but all I did was apologize and inform about the situation. Personally, I don't like strange emails or numbers reaching out to me, so I would just prefer a "Sorry." Also, another question asked what we would do if we notice an employee continuously coming late. I have worked a few jobs over the past three years, and everyone minds their business. You never know if someone has a special arrangement or if something happened, so as someone not in power, it is not my place to correct the behaviors of others. I have done so before, and I have always been told they will deal with it on my own and I should just concern myself with my duties. After all, that is what Im getting paid for. Also, I would come in late because I felt sick or my car would break down on occasion, and I always let my boss knew, so they never had an issue with it. My job isn't to micromanage other people and possibly get them fired, so I strongly disagree with their "correct" answer. Test your judgement here!
Honestly, I think I did pretty well on this test! Now, this is probably because I closed my tab and had to restart it, but I still did well! Like mentioned earlier, I usually do better when I have an image and word paired, or I have a bank to decipher wrong from right. Unfortunately, I had to type out each word, and this was somewhat difficult for me. My strategy was to visualize the words so I could later decipher and type them in, and I clumped a bunch of words together in my mind so I could quickly type them. I most easily recalled words I read last, as well as the terms I repeated early on. I think this measures short-term memory well since you get 30 seconds to analyze, then you have to recall. Here is the test!
Yay!!! Perfect score! I got super lucky with this image memorization that focused on one face. My generated image was symmetrical with hair and cheekbones, and JUST different eyes, but I was able to perfectly replicate it. Lucky for me, I only had to choose through three different features on each part, and only having to remember ONE face made this task a breeze! I think this one is also pretty accurate for me because I had more time to focus on the specific details of an individual, rather than try to remember a varying group. Click here to try for yourself!
Okay, I am done ranting for today, so if you are hungry (or hangry after failing some of these tests) and trying to study the psych exam, chocolate may be the key!
